A Quiet Kid’s First Day of College… July 25, 2008

Hello there,

As I look back on my college experience, I begin to think about what it is that I actually expected.

I remember being nervous and afraid of getting lost on campus.

“What if I don’t find my class?” “What happens if I’m late on the first day?”

These were questions that were consistently popping into my head days before my first day at college. Then, the first day came and things got real…

As I walked onto campus, all I had was a map of the campus, a schedule of my classes, and a nervous energy rattling through my entire being. I was doing all of this while at the same time, trying to appear calm and confident, like I knew exactly where I was. I think the first few times I had to look down at the campus map people realized (and I did too) that this really was my first day.

I remember seeing people walking at what seemed like lightning speed to their classes. Then, I looked around and I saw people in groups of people talking with each other as if they had been friends for years. I’ve never felt so alone and out of place.

I realize now that this could have easily been avoided with some easy preparation throughout the summer before my first day. But hindsight is 20/20, right?

Well actually, through my experience, I now have the opportunity to help new students cut out the tension that I went through and go straight to the confident, smiling, relaxed student that I became by the end of my first semester.

I see now that if I just simply went to the school a few days before class started, I could walk around the campus and get comfortable with the environment. This would have helped me tremendously on the first day.

Also, if someone would have told me that college students are much more laid back than high school seniors, I may have felt more comfortable asking somebody for directions to my class.

I’ve seen and heard stories about freshmen in high school getting trashed and if that was happening in high school, what would they possibly be doing in college?!?

But as it turns out, it is really a much more friendly environment on college campus. The people are friendly, they are more laid back, and they are almost always willing to help you if you ask them for it.

So my mission here is to help new college students take simple steps to prepare properly for this incredible experience called college. I assure you, it really can be simple, easy, and fun.

My business partner Jaycob and I have had over 8 combined years of college experience to back us up with this. We have gone through the process, we have taken advantage of the free services that most colleges offer, and we have learned how to make the most out of this incredible experience.

We are here to help show the way to incoming college students, so that they don’t have to discover everything the hard way.

I will say this in closing…

There is information out there to help you build confidence, relax, make friends, study effectively, imagine yourself to be a college graduate so that you ensure your success, and just about everything else you can think of!
